Recruitment is one of the fastest growing professional industries. While this means there is no shortage of opportunities available across multiple sectors, it does mean that when embarking on a career in recruitment, it can be difficult to decide which industry is the right sector for you.
In this article, our Recruitment Director, Alan Conroy, talks first-hand about the engineering sector and why recruitment should be considered for your next career move.
A career in recruitment allows you explore and better understand your chosen sector and most consultants can look to become ‘experts’ in their field, this level of insight and experience allows the recruiter to be as informed as their candidates or even their clients. It is the job of a Recruitment Consultant to attempt to immerse themselves in their chosen industry; the more knowledgeable you become, the more successful you will become.
Most people embark on a career in recruitment for mainly two reasons;
- You can progress and develop quickly.
- You can earn a lot of money while you are doing it.
With so much choice on offer, it is important to think about which industry you choose. It is a difficult job for an individual if you are looking to be as successful as possible by choosing a marketplace that is lucrative and that is growing then you’d want to consider recruitment. If you can also marry this with a genuine passion for the sector/industry you work in, it will be easy to work hard to succeed more.
Enthusiasm breeds reward– here at PDQ Engineering Recruitment, we have hired those that have no industry experience, no engineering experience but a real drive and thirst to gain knowledge and grow. We have also hired individuals who come directly from an engineering background so they can utilise their first-hand knowledge of the industry to add real value to clients and candidates alike. Here are the five reasons below which paint an interesting landscape for our industry and why you should look to move towards engineering recruitment:
1. Sector Protection
According to the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), engineering, technical and construction are the top 3 markets in which we expect to see the consistent need for permanent staff in the upcoming months.
2. UK Export sales are on the up.
Considering the value of the pound is weaker when we or our products leave the UK, it is actually having a strong impact on our economy. Products that are being manufactured here can be exported worldwide at a cheaper cost which in turn will cause growth in the manufacturing sector – creating more demand for skilled workers i.e. more jobs.
3. The skills shortage
The skills shortage in engineering means clients are struggling to find skilled engineers themselves which increase the need to use consultancies within the sector.
4. More Investment
A large number of projects are financed by the Government, with over £500 billion worth of planned private and public investment into transportation and infrastructure improvements alone. This investment is only going to increase, creating stability and more demand within engineering.
5. It’s always in demand
The term ‘engineering’ covers a lot of industries across the entire world. It is relevant in every part of our lives from how a car functions, an aircraft flies to how your coffee is made. Everything we come into contact with all designed and then made by engineers. Engineering is everywhere, which makes it always in demand.
